New insights into particle transport in karst conduits using comparative tracer tests with natural sediments and solutes during low‐flow and high‐flow conditions

چکیده
Colloidal particles are an important vector for the transport of contaminants in karst aquifers, characterized by a high degree hydrologic variability. Understanding this heterogeneity and hydrogeological functioning is particular importance water management strategies. Until now, parameters were mostly determined injection solutes or surrogates natural sediments. But suspended easier to analyse, less expensive better represent conditions. Therefore, tracer tests with sediments conservative solute dye conducted simultaneously active partly accessible cave system Vietnam during constant high-flow low-flow Breakthrough curves (BTCs) 10 different particle sizes classes ranging from 1 15 μm recorded situ at two main resurgences stream temporal resolution. This study gives new insights into processes highly dynamic exchange between mobile immobile regions. Major findings include: (1) conditions, inflow surrounding aquifer matrix velocity distribution inside conduits themselves lead hydrodynamic focusing, mainly affecting particles; (2) advective, preferential centre results narrow BTC. The more dispersive longer tailing; (3) conditions homogeneous indicates reversal conduit-matrix interaction; (4) comparing hydraulic activation additional flow paths increasing discharge could be identified. also presents first test field resulting pronounced double peaks particulate but only single, right-skewed BTC injected solute, including conceptual model transport.

New insights into the transport of sediments and microorganisms in karst groundwater by continuous monitoring of particle-size distribution
Mobile particles play crucial roles for contaminant transport in karst aquifers, but few studies have investigated the relationships between sediment dynamics and contaminants. This is partly due to the diffi culty in monitoring suspended particles: Turbidity is easy to measure but does not deliver detailed information on the size and type of particles; mineralogical laboratory analyses are lab...
متن کاملTransport of Gas and Solutes in Permeable Estuarine Sediments
The long-term goals are 1) to assess the role of small gas bubbles in shallow sandy coastal sediment for sediment geotechnical properties, the transport of solutes across the sediment-water interface and the biogeochemical processes in the sediment surface layer 2) to develop and apply an acoustic technique for the detection and quantification of small gas bubbles in sandy sediment at a high sp...

an investigation into translation of cultural concepts by beginner and advance student using think – aloud protocols
this research aims at answering the questions about translation problems and strategies applied by translators when translating cultural concepts. in order to address this issue, qualitative and quantitative study were conducted on two groups of subjects at imam reza international university of mashhad. these two groups were assigned as beginner and advanced translation students (10 students). ...
